My name is Fakhra. I have a passion for crafting video game experiences.
I’ve been doing this for a few years. It started in college, where I had to create a multimedia project and I went with making a video game, it was one of the most enjoyable project I did. I don’t think I ever considered being part of this industry before that. I grew up playing them, all the different sorts of genres. My first time playing a video game was on Commodore 64 or Sakher, the Arabic version of the system. I was very young but I was fascinated with it. And I grew up wanting to be an astronaut and work for NASA to travel to space, I still do really, explore space and make games up there, hehe.
Some video games had a fairly strong impact on me. I enjoy FPS games and I decided one day to go to the shooting range and practice shooting a real 9mm pistol. It was fantastic and I’m a pretty okay shooter. In AC2, I learned to speak a little bit of Italian and it made me actually enjoy learning about history. Oddworld games have a wonderful world, it made me reflect on the condition of the world we live. Those games are among the list of my favorite games of all time, as well as these: Portal games, the God of War franchise, Dead Space 2, Oddworld Abe Oddysee and Exoddus, Tomb Raider, Journey, Catherine, Raving Rabbids, Spec Ops: The Line, Tearaway and The Last of Us (hands down, the best gaming experience I went through).
I think no matter how silly, or how sophisticated a game might look, the proactive experience that it puts me through, and the lingering sentiment that it leaves me with after I complete it, is what I aspire to do in my own games. Have a substantial underlying meaning behind my games, to leave the player contemplating the message or have them experience something new, unusual and entertaining. Focus on the player(s) experience, what feelings I want the game to invoke in them. My contribution to making this world a better, happy place by crafting video game experiences.
I graduated from the Gaming Academy in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates with partnership with Ubisoft. I’ve also worked briefly in Ubisoft Abu Dhabi, mainly as a level designer. I love the fact that I’m credited in a UBISOFT game under level designers! How cool is that! Very. Lol
This blog will mainly feature my games. I want this blog to be an online portfolio, discuss game designs and share thoughts with other gamers/designers.
Update 2nd of April:
My list of dream places to work in has been slightly modified, top of the list right now is to develop my own games, with a small team of talented humans. Going Indie! I’m starting up Hybrid Humans studio, ta-da! =D it’ll be a full fest of awesome hybrid humans collaborating to craft kickass games. #Besmellah
